Wrought Iron and Brass Leafy Lantern

A large and exuberant antique lantern with massive scrolling leaves atop a tapering octagonal body, from a historic estate built in 1929 on Ocean Drive in Palm Beach, Florida. This fixture was originally hung in an exterior loggia where the weather and salt air took a toll on the metalwork. We extensively restored the fixture, remaking many of the teeth of the leaves and other worn parts, while leaving as much of the original fabric in place as possible. The result is a fixture that shows the marks of age while being thoroughly structurally sound and keeping its silhouette historically accurate. The brass and iron metalwork, finished in black paint, shows the topography of age. We left the repaired aspects visible in the spirit of wabi-sabi, as well as honesty. Glazed with its original clear glass panels. Due to the antique nature of this fixture, there may be some nicks or imperfections in the glass.
