Lighting & Decor Finishes

Remains Lighting Company's collections of luxury light fixtures and accessories are offered in fifteen standard finish selections. These high-quality finishes are unlacquered and intended to age and patina with time. Because we craft all our fixtures from solid metal, each piece evolves beautifully with age and use.

All Remains finishes are termed “living finishes” because they are in constant dialogue with their environment. Humidity, sunlight, handling, and other aspects of normal life impact their look and feel.

Custom Lighting Finishes

Our ability to create custom finishes from a written description, from photography, or by matching physical samples is unparalleled. We produce all of our luxury lighting finishes under the roof of our Brooklyn factory, from filing, hand chasing, and polishing to electroplating, patinas, gilding, and painting. This in-house process allows our craftspeople and project managers to provide creative solutions while maintaining a fine degree of consistency across complex and multi-phase projects.

Hand Finished

Our company specializes in decorative lighting made primarily from real high-quality brass. Raw material arrives at the dock of our Brooklyn factory and is handled through various manual fabrication processes before each piece is carefully hand polished by the craftspeople of our mechanical finishing department. Polished Brass, our most popular finish selection, is prepared here to a near-mirror level finish.

Thoughtful Practice

The craft processes at Remains Lighting Company inevitably provide interesting variations and distinct markings on our fifteen different living finishes and in the solid, natural materials from which we build our fixtures. Each of these distinguishing characteristics of artisanal metal and glasswork is a hallmark of a handmade Remains Lighting Company product.

Heirloom Quality

Our artisan patina team members can execute any number of standard or custom finishes for our light fixtures and accessories. Finishes are unlacquered and protected with wax to preserve the finish. These high-quality "living finishes" will continue to age naturally. Over time, exposure to air, moisture, and touch will create a rich patina—a desirable characteristic of real brass that adds depth and personal history to each product.

Winners of the 12th Annual Addison Mizner Award for Craftsmanship

In 2023, Remains Lighting Company produced a reproduction of a c. 1920 exterior lantern from a Palm Beach, FL estate. The work involved a custom verdigris patina meant to recreate the natural aged patina of the original fixture. This meticulous craftsmanship, including historically accurate finishing techniques, earned the project the 12th Annual Addison Mizner Award for Craftsmanship.
