Silver Dolphin Sconce

A double-light sconce in its original silverplated finish, with a riot of decoration from scaly water serpent arms to a shell and foliate detailed backplate to Jacobean bas-relief strapwork on the waxpans and candlecups. Though this is one of my favorite fixtures in the archive, I can imagine a room-full of such objects, the carved paneling, plaster ceiling, tufted upholstury, and more being a little overwhelming. I love it by itself.
