Linenfold and Foliate Silverplate Sconce

A double-light sconce with linenfold and foliate details throughout and exuberant S-scroll arms, in its original silverplate finish. The way the arms are handled as distinct elements, with tapered tips and tails is a hallmark of fine design. In a more commercial fixture, the tubing (hollow, to disguise the wire) which makes up the central element of the arm would be screwed into some boring transitional hardware (nozzle, knuckle, etc.). Rather, here, the tube is seamlessly joined to cast tapered tips and tails to create a finished composition.
