Drawing of Brass Uplight
Regular price $1,234,567From the Remains Archive. Available by private inquiry.
A historic drawing of an uplight pendant in pencil, ink, and gold tint wash with unusual and expressive rendeing of the shadows and reflections of the polished surfaces. The fixture depicted comes from a transition period between the beaux arts styles of the early 20th C and the Art Deco period. The form of metal indirect uplight reflectors gained traction with electric light in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century and found its strongest expression in the art deco and so-called mid-century modern styles. Here, the basic uplight bowl form is detailed with classical elements like the double acanthus leaf husks on the stem and the crown of anthemions on the lip. A faint sectional view details the position of the reflectors and lanps inside the body. Signed by the Illinois Lighting Fixture Co.
