NUVO: Matthew Fisher’s First Lighting Collection Shines Bright
We are thrilled to announce that our collaboration with NYC artist Matthew Fisher was highlighted in a recent feature by Nuvo’s Keith Flanagan. Best known for his sculptural stone creations, Fisher has brought his artistry to lighting with Ariadne—a collection that merges Greek mythology with the sublime beauty of illuminated alabaster. Read a summary of the article and collection below.
A Collaboration Rooted in Classical Inspiration
What began as a simple project to transform a stone object into a lamp quickly grew into something extraordinary. Working closely with Matthew Fisher, we found a shared love for timeless materials like stone, brass, and leather. As our founder, David Calligeros, explains, “We’re both drinking at the well of classical inspiration.” That connection fueled the creation of Ariadne, a seven-piece collection that seamlessly blends artistry and craftsmanship.
Alabaster Takes the Spotlight
The Ariadne collection celebrates the luminous beauty of alabaster, a material Matthew describes as “a gift.” Its delicate translucence shines in every design, from the modular Nima Drop Chandelier, with its alabaster orbs suspended in machined brass slabs, to the sculptural Nima Table Light, which transforms light into an art form.
Mythology Meets Modern Design
The designs in Ariadne also weave in elements of Greek mythology. The Kalathi Lantern, for instance, evokes the woven baskets of Ariadne’s tale, while the Nima Drop Chandelier recalls her thread of glittering jewels. These subtle references elevate the collection, redefining traditional lighting categories with a story-driven approach.
A Mesmerizing Lighting Collection
Fisher’s work has been described as “mesmerizing and bordering on museum-worthy,” and we couldn’t agree more. The Ariadne collection blurs the lines between functional lighting and sculptural art, creating fixtures that are truly one of a kind.
